WWR Expo (Wings, Wheels, Rotors)

I went to WWR Expo and tried to get some good shots of Planes, Cars, and Helicopters. I mainly went to this event to take snaps of jets and planes, but they only had a few selections, so I was kinda bumbed out.  I went at noon, and stayed for 2 hours. I could have went around 9am but I was tired already from the night before due to a Halloween party I went to, just that I stayed out too long. anyway, thats a different story.

2009 October 10 – TWO PART: homemade built-in-pop-up flash diffuser

Materials
* wired coat hanger (x1)
* lipper see & store magnetic plastic storage container top (x1)
* paper (x1)

Tools
* pliers – optional
* scissors
* duct tape
* tape – optional

Source taken from Sillyxone from Instructables.com
[ http://www.instructables.com/id/DIY-built-in-pop-up-flash-diffuser-soft-screen/ ]

Step 1
- use pliers if you need to untangle the hanger to straight, than form the middle of the wire of the shape of your hot shoe. be sure that the shape can be easily slide through where a flash unit can slide inside the hot shoe.

Step 2
- by trial and error you must bend the wire the way you want it to. I did not cut the wire, but I twisted and bended the ends over and over again, and used duct tape to keep them together, so that the ends wont be poking out.

Step 3
- I folded the paper, and traced a circle of the storage container top on paper to make it thinker. Than, I cut out the circle, and placed inside the container top.

Step 4
- I noticed that the container top has a slot on the side, for the wire to go, so i bend the wire closer to themselves so that the container top can be wedge between the wires and hold in place.

I set it up with my d40, and took a few shots to see the difference with my pop-up built-in flash. I don’t have a flash unit, but I wanted to experience with flash, so this is my way.

I did a few test shots of how this built-in-pop-up flash diffuser of a few things, and you can see the difference without flash, with flash, and with the diffuser.

Down below are examples of my camera with this rig, and some of examples of how it changes. No editing has been done, only the fact that i re-size the images.

2009 October 10 – ONE PART: How I Do the Lighting Assignment

October 11th, 2009

2009 October 10 – ONE PART: How I Do the Lighting Assignment ?

Some people were asking me “how I do the Lighting Assignment?”, and I also got asked “what is a light box?”.

Well, let me first say, a light box is “A white cloth teepee-shaped tent that diffuses light and eliminates reflections in photographs. You place the objects you want to shoot inside this tent. ” [source A Digital Photography Glossary for Dummies]

Now with the above description of what a light box is, I used it to diffuse light and took photos of my Star Wars Action Figures. I somewhat need light. Now with my camera, I don’t have a flash unit, so I have a built-on-pop-up flash on my D SLR, and with that the camera has flash modes. I took some series of pictures, but I have 3 pictures that are best, so I posted those.

I decided to set up the exact way how I took the pictures for my assignment. I used my light tent/box, black acrylic, sliver car sun shade, a clip task light and my 3 Star Wars Action Figures of Galen Marek. In the first picture you can see the set up, and the second picture is an actual shot using my point-n-shot camera.

2009 October 8 – My PVC Light Tent/Box

October 9th, 2009

2009 October 8 – My PVC Light Tent/Box

I’ve made one a year ago, and this is my upgrade and reconstructed Light Tent out of PVC Pipe. I previously used the instruction to Bill Huber’s Light Box / Tent online which is at this link [ http://www.pbase.com/wlhuber/light_box_light_tent ].

The modification I made is to add an extra area to clip lights to the box. so I add 2 Tees, 2 Elbows, and  4 of 2-3/8″ inch length pipes.

dsc_4297-smallYes, I know one of the legs looks unstable, but I just wanted to take a good picture of it for you, and i was outside on a chilly California day.

Materials
* PVC Pipe 3/4 sch 40, 24″ inch length (x2)
* PVC Pipe 3/4 sch 40, 22″ inch length (x7)
* PVC Pipe 3/4 sch 40, 2-3/8″ inch length (x4)
* 3/4 Elbow (x2)
* 3/4 Street Elbow (x4)
* 3/4 Tee (x4)
* 3/4 End Caps (x4)

The next modification I want to add to this, is a place to be able to slide my black arclyic sheet so it can be higher.
